Text Box: REVIEW OF 2008 EVENTS
April 30th “From Stress to Stretch”, Gill Tree
Gill opened our eyes in a very practical, fun and interactive session enabling all attendees to see, feel and hear how to help them and managers in their organisation;
Know what to do with the malingerers, the movers and the manics
Develop wellbeing and a proactive workforce
Understand others behaviour and why they don’t do things our way
Communicate more clearly and effectively than ever
Understand why people are absent and what to do about absenteeism.

July 15th “Increasing the ROI-Return on Intelligence of your Talent in a slowing Economy”, Ann Herrmann-Nehdi CEO of Herrmann Int.
At our July session we explored the way in which we all have different preferences in the way we think and interpret information given to us. The four quadrants of our brain were explained to us and when referring to a Return on Intelligence we were accessing each of these quadrants as returns on Innovation, Interaction, Implementation and Investment.
We ended by completing action plans that once again accessed the four quadrants of our thinking. This event proved to be a 'whole brain' workout and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

October 8th “Producing a ROI for HR Systems and Processes”, Clinton Wingrove CEO and Principal Consultant of Pilat (North America) Inc.
In October Clinton explored the issue of HR metrics and its changing relationship with HR processes and technology. The group were challenged to consider how HR can gain quality data, how HR can gain true intelligence rather than mere averages and rank orders and how they use technology to ensure genuine return on the processes it promotes and the initiatives that it generates.
Clinton shared some hard data: people costs are typically the largest single cost line on the P&L; and unexpected executive vacancies can cost between 2 and 6 times the individual’s annual costs. He identified the 5 critical HR accountabilities or desired outcomes, namely improved performance; growth in capability; assured continuity especially of management; quality datasets about individuals, their jobs and their performance; and effective decisions about people.

December 2nd “Where next for the UK Economy?”, Dr Dominic Swords.
In December we welcomed Dominic Swords, Visiting Executive Fellow at Henley Management College and a regular contributor to a number of BBCTV and Radio programmes including the Financial World Tonight, World Business Report, BBC News 24 and the Money Programme.
Dominic assessed the medium term prospects for the UK economy with growth declining throughout the year, and we identified some key indicators that will enable us to know when and how rapidly the economy starts to return to higher levels of growth in 2009. We also spent some time exploring some of the impacts of the growth and development of Far Eastern nations on growth and opportunities for UK based businesses.
Dominic highlighted the macro economic shocks and their business reverberations, namely: there has been over 15 years of continuous growth for the world economy as a whole; the success story of ‘emerging markets’; an unprecedented expansion of global trade; financial market development and innovation; the opening up of many countries, markets and companies to the winds of competition and change; and over the last 12 months, this has turned rapidly from fears of a mild slowdown to worries over a severe but short and sharp recession for some into an ‘economic melt down’.
He finished by predicting how the West can avoid a decline into a depression through co-ordinated government intervention.
